Eri Silk, Peace or Vegan silk is produced by eri silk worms that feed on sweet potato or papaya leaves instead of mulberry leaves. The thread is drawn without killing the worm inside once the moth has emerged from the cocoon.
The silk threads are made up of uneven fibres which have been broken by the moth and therefore cannot be reeled, making this process very labour intensive. Eri is one of the most eco-friendly silk as it requires less land and water than other varieties. The silk is known for its warmth and is wool like in texture.
